My EXPENSIVE Children

Today turned out to be an expensive day....thanks to my kids :)

Paul has been trying to mow for the last two weeks, but last weekend our weedeater broke and the mower needed a new blade. We don't know what happened to the weedeater. It was working, then it stopped. We went and got a new one, but between the rain and after school "stuff" he has not gotten to use it. And it was yesterday before we were able to get a blade for the lawnmower.

This morning he gets up to mow (took all the kids out with him in an attempt to let me sleep in....but the kids came inside while he was working and it didn't work) before the rain started. He did the edging and was working on mowing. Little did he know that Caleb threw his scooter in the grass. Paul came around the corner of the house and did not see it until it was too late. He ran over it. The scooter went flying and the lawnmower was not making a pretty noise.

He thought the blade was just bent (which it was bigtime) but we went back and got ANOTHER blade and it still sounds really bad. Paul thinks the drive shaft is bent. So, after buying to blades this weekend for the lawnmower we got LAST SUMMER - we had to go buy a new mower today.

Our "old" one was so nice. It had the turn-key start and was self propelled...I didn't mind mowing with it if I needed too. The new one is not turn-key, but is self propelled. He got a Honda this time because his Dad had one FOREVER and then gave it to us and we used it FOREVER. It never broke down, we just got a better one. Hopefully, we will have the same luck with this one!

As for Caleb's scooter (you know, that only cost $35 instead of $400)...it came out without a scratch. Don't know how since the blade hit it and threw it, but of course the cheaper thing comes out better than the expensive one.

We also took all the boys shopping today. They are all getting to the age where they want to pick out their own clothes. It is nice not having to worry about it during the school year because they wear uniforms all week. They only have three half days this week and they are out for the summer. Paul leaves the 28th to go to Toronto for a week (Thursday to Thursday) and I did not want to attempt to take them ALL shopping by myself. So we got Paul what he needed for his conference and all the boys clothes and shoes. That was not a pretty total either, but not bad for buying for five people!

The boys have never been so excited about new clothes. I guess after nine months of navy blue polo shirts and khaki pants.....
