Avery Island Part 2

Avery Island Part 1

Today we took a family road trip to Avery Island. Avery Island is the home of the ONLY Tabasco factory. We took a tour through the factory where they bottle the sauce. It was an interesting process. We went through their Country Store full of all thing Tabasco. We got free small samples (although when they give three small samples to six people in one family it equals quite a bit!) which the boys are all anxious to try ;)

There is also a beautiful drive through the 250 acre property called Jungle Gardens. It is on salt dunes and there are many "sink holes" which have gardens and old trees in. There is also a lagoon where we saw many alligators. The boys were so excited because it was the first time they had seen alligators in the wild. The only other place they have seen them is the zoo.

There is also a bird sanctuary on the property. They have pier type structures in the middle of a pond full of snow egrets. Each Spring they come and nest.

There is a picture of a Buddha. It is over 900 years old!

More pictures are to come! There are a lot, and I got some great ones of the kids (even some with ALL of them in one shot!)

Mother/Daughter Pics

I was hoping to get some cute pics with Mads in all of the pretty flowers. I figured if she would just sit that would be good. NEVER did I think she would be SO interested in the flowers, which made for some CUTE pics. I just wasn't planning on me being in pics, now I wish I had worn a much more Spring color!!

Caleb

Earlier this weekend I got lectured by my oldest that I take too many pictures of Andrew and Madeleine and not enough of the older three. I tried to explain that was because I am with them all day and we do things other than sit at home and that the older three don't like to take time out of what they are doing to allow me to take pictures, even when I ask. So, today I made a point of asking all three of them if I could get pictures of them. Bryce gave me a flat-out "no", Isaac allowed a few and Caleb let me get several. So this post is for Caleb:

Disappointed Mom!

I am SOOOOOO disappointed in my three oldest boys tonight! Our resident Mama bird that has been taking turns with Daddy bird sitting on the nest was SCREAMING when I walked outside. I noticed her eggs from the driveway, which up to now you had to be at the flowerbed before you saw them. I walked over and she stood over her nest squawking and acting like she had her broken wing, but not running away.

Before I even got to the nest boys started blaming everyone else for whatever (I didn't know what had happened at the time). One of the boys (or three of the boys) messed with the eggs. Not only did they touch them, they broke two eggs. Mama wasn't going away from her nest because she was so upset!

It doesn't matter who did what, they all three have heard the speech over and over about not going over there at all right now. They all three were there when whoever did whatever and they did not stop the wrong-doer. Nor, did they come let their parents know what the wrong-doer was doing.

Whether we were animal people or not (which obviously with our zoo - we are), this is basic disrespect. They knew if they touched her eggs she would no longer take care of them. They knew better. That bird had never messed with them at all. She simply sits on her nest, under the rose bush in the flowerbed they are NOT supposed to be in.

They made SO many wrong choices in a matter of minutes - ALL THREE OF THEM!

Toy Story Glory

OH MY FINITY OH MY YAWN!

According to Andrew, that is what Buzz Lightyear says.

He saw a commercial saying it was coming out and we have been counting down! Yesterday was the glorious day it finally came out on DVD, so we have two copies of each (they only came in a set with a blu ray copy and a regular copy - that means one for inside and one for the car). Now he is asking over and over when he can see Toy Story 3 (which doesn't come out until June 18). This is the first movie he has ever been so crazy about!!

I think we have already watched it too much because he is running around saying it over and over!
